Ashton Ladies 3 v 6 Odd Down

Ashton Ladies suffered their first home league defeat of the season to top of the table Odd Down (Bath) Women at the Creek. Cruising at 3-0 to first half goals from Lainey Bartley, Teagan Ford and Meli Millard-Riga set Ashton on their way to a convincing first half performance.

However, the second half was a different story. Shortly after the whistle to start the second half it was apparent Odd Down were looking to get back into the match and attack after relentless attack seen them pull themselves back into the game with a quick goal. From that point Odd Down took control of the second half and goal after goal came in quick succession eventually roll out 3-6 winners to take all three points. Ashton did themselves did have the opportunity to extend their goal tally, but it wasn’t to be on a day when second half complacency showed the most.

Manager Steve Ponsford said after the match, “the second half performance wasn’t acceptable, but we all know that, so we don’t need to elaborate anymore”. Ponsford continued “Some players were upset at the final whistle, and I don’t mind that as it shows they care!”. “I don’t want this to happen again, and we will do everything in our power, so it doesn’t happen again”. “Us as coaches will also take responsibility as well as the players, but we move on and learn from this, like we have been learning all season”.

Ashton Ladies take a break and have a weekend off before a long distance trip to Porlock Ladies on November 23rd.
