Ashton Ladies 12 v 1 Wincanton Ladies
Ashton Ladies came away victorious after an emphatic win at home to Wincanton Ladies. In a match where Ashton Girls U13’s were mascot flag bearing, Ashton started on the attack and it wasn’t too long before Edyta Sawon opened her scoring account breaking the Wincanton backline after an earlier Wincanton OG from a good corner by Meli Millard-Riga. Several goals from Edyta continued as she raced to a quick hattrick using her pace up front. Substitute Honey Ongley followed suit to Edyta coming off the bench to score within minutes and finally finishing the match for an incredible 4 goals. In what was a dominant team performance, other goals came from Molly Kingston, Teagan Ford, two from player of the match Josie Almond and an OG. Wincanton came back with a goal of their own, a fine lob from 30 yards chipping keeper Keira Allen who had no chance with the ball being taken by the wind. The Ashton backline did a fantastic job when called upon keeping attacks from Wincanton at bay.
Manager Steve Ponsford commented “I am really pleased with the overall team performance today. I was particularly pleased with the different goal scoring players rather than relying on one player, considering we are missing Paige and Lainey”. Steve continued, “If there is one criticism I would have is I would like to see more football from the whole squad”. “Don’t get me wrong, I was delighted with the overall performance, but I would like us to get the ball down and play through the pitch rather than long ball”. “I was particularly pleased with the way we used the wide players and getting in to attack and also playing out from the back from goal kicks”.
